Does 7UP Have Caffeine? Your Questions Answered

Updated: February 14, 2023
Written by: Bradley Carver

There are several selections of sodas to choose from, many of which contain caffeine. It’s a common presumption that most dark sodas like Dr Pepper or Root Beer may contain caffeine. In the same vein, there also exists the presumption that lemon-lime flavored sodas are caffeine-free. While this can often be a correct presumption, there are a few brands of clear sodas that surprisingly contain caffeine.

In this article we are going to be focusing on one particular clear soft drink. If you are a fan of lemon-lime flavored drinks, odds are you’ve heard of 7UP. We’ll be determining how much caffeine is inside of 7UP, as well as answering the most commonly asked questions regarding the popular lemon-lime soda.

What is 7UP?

7UP is a popular carbonated beverage that is owned by Keurig Dr Pepper but is distributed by PepsiCo worldwide. It’s often considered a strong competitor to products like Sprite and Sierra Mist. It’s often consumed to ease upset stomach symptoms and even used in some alcoholic cocktail mixes.

7Up Nutritional Facts

7UP is often compared to other lemon-lime flavored sodas in regards to their nutritional and caffeine content. 7UP can be considered to be a healthier alternative to most sodas due to having lower calories and sugars. This is not to claim that the soda is healthy to consume in large amounts, as 7UP can quickly add a lot of sugar to your diet.

Are All Lemon-Lime Sodas Caffeine-Free?

It’s often assumed that all lemon-lime flavored sodas are caffeine-free. This assumption is mostly accurate. However, there are a couple of outliers that many may not know about. The most popular sodas with citrus flavors that have caffeine are Surge and Mountain Dew. If you are ever concerned about caffeine content in your beverage, you can always check the nutrition facts and ingredients before you consume to be sure.

For the most part, though, lemon-lime sodas contain little caffeine. Another broadly-grouped example is ginger ale. When you look at popular brands like Canada Dry, their ginger ale’s caffeine content is practically zero.
